What We Do

Our Mission Statement

"To promote, maintain, improve and advance the education of children, young people and adults especially those people affected by mental health issues, particularly by encouragement of the Arts including the arts of drama, dance, music, singing, literature and visual arts."

We are a campaigning Theatre Company and a Registered Charity set up to give a voice to social issues especially mental health. We do this through the performing arts. Theatre NEMO plays a valuable part in the lives of those it has touched. We actively encourage people with mental health problems and carers to take part in drama and other areas of performance. Our aim is to break down stigma and to give people a voice, and our experience so far has shown it is a powerful and truly worthwhile means of stimulation.

Theatre NEMO has been providing a variety of creative arts workshops since 2000. We host regular FREE community workshops both in Glasgow and Lanarkshire (please see our Homepage for details), which usually cumlminate into performances and events. The community workshops are open to all aged 18 and over. We also hold projects in the prisons and hospitals only for those of this circumstance, as part of rehabilitation.

Isabel head

Founder and Director Isabel McCue founded theatre NEMO after her son John took his own life. John was diagnosed as having schizophrenia at the age of 22.

So many windows of opportunity were missed because of the lack of understanding and resources. John was a very talented and creative young man but all of this was ignored and medication (with all the side effects) was all that was offered. Please read Isabel's Story here.

Theatre NEMO is a campaigning theatre company who's aims are to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down the stigma the isolation and give a voice to those who have been touched by mental ill health.

We are open to the whole community, who wish to take part in art and drama as a means of stimulation and self help. We provide a number of workshops and events for all to participate in. Details of these can be found on our Homepage.
